This handmade table runner is a one-of-a-kind piece, crafted by artisans from Chinchero, where each design reflects the cultural identity of this Andean community, known as the Land of the Rainbow. Along the edges, the Nawi Awapa motif (“the eye of the princess”) stands out as a traditional symbol unique to Chinchero, believed to provide protection and spiritual connection within the textile.

The weaving incorporates two main pallay (patterns) that tell a deeper story. The first, Hakaku (“the condor’s beak”), also represents water as a source of life and is associated with Mama Qocha (Mother Water). The second, Loraypo, is an emblematic technique of Chinchero that functions as a kind of “textile identity,” similar to a cultural ID, as it allows the origin of the piece to be recognized. Additionally, its name comes from a medicinal plant traditionally used to relieve various ailments.

Finally, the two circles within the design symbolize the Huaypo and Piuray lagoons, as well as the Andean principle of duality—the feminine and the masculine—complementary forces that represent balance in Andean cosmovision. This textile is not only decorative but a living expression of history, territory, and ancestral wisdom.8-
